Cocaine is a strong stimulant drug made from coca plant leaves that are found in South America. For centuries, the indigenous people of the Andes used coca leaves for their stimulating effects. But it wasn’t until the late 19th century that cocaine was isolated as a chemical compound, and it later became popular as a recreational drug. Today, it’s commonly found as a white powder.
